Im am majoring in health education emphasis in public health and Minor in biology. what type of job can i get????i dont know to be a health teacher so what are my other options?

You can work for the school system. Often blind/deaf schools hire their own health educator. You could work for the school board in your region. Also, there are often state or district jobs where you work at health centers, clinics, etc. Perhaps you could take a few extra courses in something that allows you to branch out a little more? Such as business? The more versatility you try for now, the more options you can open yourself up for later.

The World Health Organization reports that the United States has the 37th best health care system in the world. America’s health care system is fraught with problems and its patient satisfaction is rated among the worst in the world. Even though America’s health care system is envied by the world, it ranks at the bottom of many health care indicators. In the developed world, the United States is at the bottom of the list for infant mortality and life expectancy.

Health care responsibility is the process is taking control of your health care. The health care system has many problems, but great health care can be obtained if you are a smart health care consumer.

Being educated does not mean that you need to have a medical degree or even a high school diploma; it means that you know how to get and transmit critical information.

Having a system to organize and communicate your health information will significantly improve health care. You need a system to organize your medical information. Having this information improves the relationship with your doctor and having a good relationship with the physician who serves as your primary care provider is an essential step to getting optimal health care.

The current capitalistic health care system focuses on profit instead of patient care. This does not mean that you cannot receive great health care in the current system. It does mean that you will have to do more than have a good doctor. You need to take responsibility for your health care. Health care responsibility includes understanding your health and disease states, organizing your health information and communicating it with the system.

Five fast and easy things that you can do to improve your health care:

Become educated
Learn to communicate at doctors appointments
Prepare before each doctor’s appointment
Know what preventative testing and treatments you need
Practice healthy lifestyle changes – exercise and eat well, avoid smoking, tobacco and excessive alcohol

Why don’t they teach certain things in health education?

Question by Samantha: Why don’t they teach certain things in health education?
I believe sex education should be more open and less from the book. By the time you get to high school you know what a vagina looks like right? Instead of teaching anatomy they should be talking about masturbation, rape, oral sex, etc. I’m not saying they should talk about oral sex being good or anything ,but they should talk about important issues. I was suprised they did talk about condoms..
i don’t agree katie, but that’s ok.

they aren’t supposed to actually teach how to have the act of sex, it’s supposed to be more about anatomy and the reproductive organs and all that. And depending on where you live, they teach abstinence only, so they can’t teach you about oral sex. Pregnancy and STD prevention along with the anatomy and reproductive organs is what sex ed is supposed to be. it’s more to educate you about that area of the body.

A proposal by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to cut 300,000 people from the health care plan for the poor will likely “increase the misery index,” a Prescott doctor said.

Dr. Joseph Goldberger, chief medical officer for the Yavapai Regional Medical Center and a rheumatologist with a private practice, said about 15 to 20 percent of the patients he sees at his rheumatology consulting practice are insured by the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, the Arizona equivalent of Medicaid. Already, AHCCCS fees to doctors have been frozen, he said.

“The untold story is patients with or without insurance continue to get the care,” Goldberger said. “They get the most expensive care of all: ER care. Everybody else ends up paying for that through higher premiums. It has a significant impact.”Many of his arthritis patients need “very expensive” medications and “without insurance, they can’t afford them at all. The bigger problem is the access to medications.”

While that may not be life threatening in all situations, it certainly increases pain levels for arthritis patients.

In some situations, such as with a lupus patient who has kidney disease and can’t get access to chemotherapy, it could be life threatening, he said.

While Goldberger understands that the state is having budget problems and that education and health care are candidates for cost cuts, there are consequences, such as the loss of federal matching funds.

Health providers face a total cut of .7 million in state and federal money, according to the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association. The association protested the plan to transfer AHCCCS’s remaining graduate medical education money and nearly all private disproportionate hospital dollars to other uses. Arizona’s hospitals have seen 8 million in state funding cuts since 2008, trade group officials said.

Reduction in payments for training doctors – the graduate medical education money – is particularly egregious, said John Rivers, the hospital association president and CEO.

The state and federal government traditionally reimburse hospitals that train doctors who typically go through a residency in a specific area of medicine after they complete their medical training and internships, Rivers said. However, if the state doesn’t put up the money for that training, then the federal government won’t contribute its share, Rivers said.

“If we’re not training doctors, I don’t see how that is good for the people of Arizona,” Rivers said. “One of the important by-products of training doctors here is this is where they end up practicing. If they get training somewhere else, they stay there. It’s a horrible outcome for the people of Arizona.”

Already the state has only 219 doctors for every 100,000 people, while the national average is 293 physicians for every 100,000.

It’s also shortsighted economically to cut into hospital budgets as hospitals create jobs, he said. And the cuts will shrink the state’s economy by .8 million in federal Medicaid matching dollars that will now go to other states.

Hospitals in Arizona employ 73,300 people and contribute .5 billion to its gross economic product, according to an Arizona State University study.

While the Yavapai Regional Medical Center is not a teaching hospital and is not affected by the graduate medical aspect of the budget cuts, said Brian Hoefle, the chief financial officer, the lack of disproportionate care money from the state would result in a loss of several hundred thousand dollars.

“Gov. Jan Brewer is talking about eliminating some of those programs,” said Hoefle. “It would be up to the Legislature to decide on cuts to AHCCCS. Just because the state isn’t covering certain populations anymore doesn’t mean they won’t get sick and end up in our ER. If there’s no payment for them, it shifts the costs to the paying customers.”

The state will lose from the federal government for every dollar it cuts from AHCCCS, according to Hoefle.

“That’s very frustrating,” he said.

About 15 percent of patients who use YRMC are AHCCCS clients.

Meanwhile, the hospital has already seen large increases in bad debts and charity care over the past two years, Hoefle said. Charity care – wherein patients provide their financial information and are deemed unable to pay – has doubled from 2008 through 2009. While bad debtors – those who are unable or unwilling to pay but are not working with the hospital – have increased by 18 percent over the last two years.

“If the AHCCCS program is not going to pay hospitals, it’s going to fall back on hospitals to pay,” Hoefle said. People are “going to come to the hospital and we’re going to eat it. It ultimately affects commercial insurance. We raise our rates to insurance companies and those people who can pay will ultimately pay for the state’s lack of coverage. They’re talking about the hidden tax. Whoever is paying their hospital bills is paying for those who are not paying their hospital bills. Otherwise the hospital goes out of business.”

Obama wants to do it all in one step. I feel the economy issue should be the number one concern, he is using all the money we don’t have to embark in all the new programs, wouldn’t this just backfire and cause a worst turnaround for the economy?
I understand that Bash, but now is not the time it is going to kill the US economy and fast. I will accept 1 venture like Energy…but all three we are talking Trillions…we are already in the hole!

Email Comments 1 We are both veterans of the tobacco wars and so are not surprised at the industry’s recent attempt to block New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s effort to remind citizens of the grim dangers of smoking by requiring stores that sell tobacco products to post graphic posters of the consequences of lighting up. To us this is the same old, same old tobacco industry tactic of frivolous litigation to obstruct any program that focuses attention on the killing and crippling consequences of using tobacco products as directed.

The city has enacted a requirement that stores selling cigarettes–some 11,500 establishments–show at point of sale where the tobacco products are displayed one of three Health Department signs. One displays a smoker’s damaged lung; another, a decayed tooth; and the third, a stroke-damaged brain, respectively captioned “Smoking Causes Lung Cancer,” “Tooth Decay” or “Stroke.wow

Philip Morris, R. J. Reynolds Tobacco and Lorillard–the big three tobacco merchants–have gone to their old playbook, the one they use to battle any effective anti-smoking effort. First, create (or support) as allies individual local stores or restaurants and an association to “represent” them. Second hire the biggest legal guns money can buy. Third, file a lawsuit that sprays charges and legal attacks like buckshot hoping one or another will hit their target.

When the industry resorts to one or another of those ploys, you know the program they are attacking is effective.

In 2003, R. J. Reynolds and Lorillard sued the California Department of Health Services to kill the state’s effective tobacco control advertisements. Among the two companies’ claims was that California violated their First Amendment rights by imposing a surtax on cigarettes and using the proceeds for the state’s anti-smoking media campaign. The outcome: the federal district court rejected this spurious claim (and others) and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the trial court’s rulings.

Beginning in 2002, Lorillard engaged in a legal battle with Legacy, the foundation set up by the tobacco master settlement agreement to discourage youth smoking, to kill its extraordinarily effective youth smoking prevention truth® campaign. The litigation dragged on for almost five years, distracting Legacy’s executives and draining the foundation’s resources. The outcome: a unanimous Supreme Court of Delaware decision upholding the Legacy program and rejecting the industry’s claims that Legacy’s hard hitting ads vilified tobacco executives in violation of the settlement agreement.

The lawsuit filed against New York City echoes the spurious claims made by the tobacco companies in the past. Among the complaint’s charges, the industry claims that requiring a store seller to put up such a graphic sign violates the First Amendment rights of a seller or store owner who doesn’t agree with it. That’s like saying that the government requirement that drug companies warn patients of adverse side effects violates the First Amendment rights of pharmaceutical companies who don’t agree with the warning. Other claims splattered through the complaint are that the law violates plaintiffs’ civil rights and that federal law prohibits the city from imposing this requirement.

This effort to block New York City’s potent public health initiative is reminiscent of big tobacco’s assertions that nicotine was not addictive and its denial of smoking’s adverse health consequences, while concealing the mounds of data it had to the contrary. That tactic led the federal district court in Washington to find the big three tobacco companies guilty of civil racketeering and defrauding the public, a finding which was upheld on appeal just last year.

New York City’s posters have been on display for the better part of a year. From our experience, it doesn’t take tobacco companies that long to file a lawsuit to kill something they oppose. What going to court now to kill this program reveals is that these posters are achieving their intended objective of discouraging smoking. Such action also shows the tobacco industry’s concern that other cities and states are likely to follow Mayor Bloomberg’s example. Big fat hat he is. He would sell you out.

a little over half way down you will find a break-down of what you are after but basically 40 billion is the figure required. Interestingly enough 780 billion is how much the world spent on weapons in 1998. Some points you may want to bring up in your assignment:
